Nokia Pulls The Curtains Off Of Asha 308 And 309 Low-End Smartphones

Asha touch mobile phones from Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) have been in the scene for quite some time. They are aimed at the low-end smartphone market. Nokia has declared the inclusion of two new budget smartphones in the Asha brand line, namely Asha 308 and Asha 309. The difference between the two smartphones is that the former is a dual SIM device while the latter has a single SIM slot.

Both the devices are supposed to provide fast web access at an inexpensive price. The smartphones utilize Nokia Xpress Browser letting devices to be 90% more efficient while accessing the mobile internet. Both of these phones come with Nokia’s fluid ‘swipe’ user interface and an open environment letting the development of third-party application.

Nokia says that these two smartphones are the most reasonably priced capacitive touchscreen gadgets ever. The retail price for each of these devices is estimated at $99 in the US. Shipments are slated in fourth quarter of 2012. Both smartphones are 2G devices and come with three-inch WQVGA capacitive touchscreen displays. The smartphones also come with multiple home screens, loudspeakers, upto 32 GB storage and stereo radios.

The Nokia Asha 309 has a single SIM slot and has integrated Wi Fi. The Nokia Asha 308 has support for two SIM cards and utilizes Nokia’s Easy Swap technology for easy and quick changing of SIM cards. Both the phones will be preloaded with EA games, Nokia Messaging Service and standalone Facebook and Twitter clients. The smartphones will also be capable of streaming videos through browser from YouTube. This is exclusively the first time for the Nokia Asha range.

Nokia also introduces two extensions to its Xpress Browser Internet platform. It is the only cloud-based web browser that supports web-based applications. Both these services will work on Asha smartphones. With Xpress web App Builder, publishers can make impressive web apps for Asha touch range.
