SMSC announced some new products yesterday.

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1996--

-- Comprehensive Suite of Scalable Fast Ethernet Solutions

Addressing Bandwidth Acceleration, 10/100 Mbps Integration,

Connectivity, and Management

-- Commitment to Educating Channel Partners and Users

Standard Microsystems Corporation (SMC), an industry leader in
the Ethernet and Fast Ethernet adapter, hub and switching markets,
today unveiled SMC Connect 100, a new Fast Ethernet strategy designed
to help customers understand and integrate Fast Ethernet into their
networks through cost-effective Fast Ethernet products that solve
bandwidth, cabling, distance, 10/100 Integration and management
issues, as well as a variety of service and support programs designed
to educate resellers, VARs and end-users to the benefits and
practical implementation of Fast Ethernet technology.

"The current situation in the industry today, as evidenced by our
internal information, as well as a variety of research reports, is
that Fast Ethernet is not being implemented as fast as it should be
for users to benefit from the overall performance advantages
associated with this technology," stated Lance Murrah, senior vice
president and general manager for SMC's System Product Division.
"SMC Connect 100 is the Fast Ethernet enabler. In other words, it's
the pragmatic use of this technology, without the confusion of
proprietary VLANs and Quality of Service rhetoric, that will deliver
Fast Ethernet to the mainstream."

The product component of the SMC Connect 100 strategy consists of
an affordable new line of high-performance hubs, stackable hubs,
switches and adapter cards providing the most scalable Fast Ethernet
solutions available for workgroups and departmental LANs. These
products have been designed specifically to address current market
demand for increasing bandwidth and overcoming distance and cabling
issues associated with Ethernet and Fast Ethernet integration.

SMC Connect 100 - Initial Product Offerings

Key to SMC's line of new Fast Ethernet products is the TigerStack
100 family of Switch-Ready stackable hubs. These hubs feature the
first fully Integrated Switch Module (ISM) on the market, which
provides up to 4 segments of Fast Ethernet switching --within the
stack itself. This eliminates the need for an external switch, at
less than half the price of a traditional switch. Each stack is
fully segmentable up to 16 Fast Ethernet segments per stack and
scalable up to 1.6 Gigabits of aggregate bandwidth. For customers
requiring a complete Fast Ethernet solution with greater segmentation
and switching capabilities, SMC also introduced the TigerSwitch 100,
offering eight (8) ports of Fast Ethernet connectivity with support
for both cut-through and store-and-forward switching, resulting in
full wire speed transmission. When used together, the TigerSwitch
100 and TigerStack 100 deliver unparalleled options for deploying,
segmenting and managing Fast Ethernet.

Rounding out the SMC Connect 100 is a new eight (8) port Fast
Ethernet hub, the EZ Hub 100, which can be used standalone or
cascaded in pairs, along with three new Fast Ethernet PCI network
cards for single channel-TX, dual channel-TX and single channel-T4
LAN access, under the EtherPower 10/100 brand name. Combined, the EZ
Hub 100 and EtherPower 10/100 present customers with the lowest cost
LAN access solution available today.

Steve Schmid, vice president of new product development for SMC's
System Products Division, stated "With SMC Connect 100 we've provided
an unparalleled suite of products to match varying bandwidth
requirements, existing or new cabling, and management needs
regardless of network size or budget. These products represent
tremendous opportunities for resellers to scale solutions for their
end-users. Most importantly, we feel that the customer value-add
that SMC provides through its unique Customer Satisfaction Guarantee
and the educational aspects of SMC Connect 100, truly sets our
company apart from the competition."

SMC Connect 100 Education, Service and Support Programs

In addition to superior product offerings, SMC Connect 100
represents SMC's commitment to bringing Fast Ethernet to the
mainstream. To facilitate the process, the company announced that it
is currently creating unique opportunities for end-users and
resellers to learn more about integrating Ethernet and Fast Ethernet.
In September, SMC will establish a Fast Ethernet Integration Center
on its Web Site, at www.smc.com. This new section will enable web
visitors to explore a variety of network configurations designed to
provide bandwidth, cabling and management solutions that meet varying
network sizes and budget requirements.

In October, SMC will be presenting a series of symposiums
throughout North America designed to provide resellers and VARs with
a practical guide to understanding and selling Fast Ethernet
Integration and Switching. The Keynote speaker will be
industry-renowned Nick Lippis of Strategic Networks.
