My point is that if people can buy complete (albeit basic) systems for $500, that is going to affect the entire PC food chain.

Dell seems to think that people buying these systems will upgrade 18-24 months down the road to more powerful Dell systems.

That may happen, but not at a price that is four times what they paid for their first system.

Dell (and everyone else for that matter) will have to satisfy themselves with MUCH lower prices than they are accustomed to getting.
