Michael,

"Fourthly, these are all very good people and their opinions are quite valuable, just not the final word, and certainly not to be accepted without question."

This quote applies to the three CEO's you listed, within their areas of core competency. Cisco's core business is providing networking infrastructure, routers in particular. Cisco's business is NOT in building applications (e.g., Internet commerce) on top of the networking infrastructure they design, build, test, market, and support, though I can guarantee you that making rosy projections for networking applications will help sell lots more routers.

Will Internet commerce start to take off? According to the articles I have come across to date, acceptance so far has been quite slow -- mostly tire-kicking, and lots of people don't think it's safe, yet. Will Internet commerce continue to grow? Yes. Will it surpass $1 trillion in sales? Someday, very probably, unless a better technology comes along and renders the Internet superfluous, as hard as that is to imagine. Will it do so on Chambers's schedule? Not very likely. Does Cisco want to sell more routers? Absolutely!!
