<<Example: Interoperability is a big issue for customers with a new
technology like FC. Brocade came up with the Brocade Partnership Program
(not exactly a new concept in the industry) to qualify other FC vendors
as interoperable with the Silkworm and each other. Administered by the
independent U of NH, it addresses an industry hot button. The Press
Release had great comments from other FC vendors who enthusiastically
endorsed the program, and further marked Brocade as the industry leader.
As the pioneer in the sector where was Ancor ?>>

The irony is that Brocade's "Partners Program" is a direct response to what Ancor showed at Interop in Atlanta, namely the biggest and broadest Interoperability demo in the FC Industry. I have heard that Brocade will not have their "Partners" testbed with UNH in place until sometime in Q1 1998 whereas Ancor's UNH testbed was already in progress in Q3/Q4 of this year.

The FCLP ( Fibre Channel Loop Community ) asked all vendors to submit their products in advance of Comdex to ensure that all the products in the demo worked as advertised. One can assume that Brocade was invited to submit product and participate in the FCLC interoperability demo, yet Brocade was noticeably absent from both the demo and the FCLC press release. WHY??? Is Brocade's arbitrated loop technology so top secret that they chose to forego a prime time LIVE Comdex demo opportunity OR could it be that the actual product and demo did not live up to the potentially smoke and mirrors hype of the pre-Comdex press release? Does anyone have answers?
