[Point counter-point]
<<<I'm not going to start guessing on numbers , $$$ and starting dates. Those number didn't help AMTX and guessing on Westell's certainly isn't going to help. I'm confident ADSL will be a large market and Westell is getting their share. >>>
The fact that they didn't help Amati is exactly why I'm not giving my money to Westell until I see them.
>> I want to see 1) a definitive agreement in print beyond a "strategic alliance," and 2) contracts with teeth as I stated above. <<
<<<OK... I'm starting to get frustrated with your complete faith in AMTX while at the same time showing little/no faith when it comes to Westell. How many months did you have faith that AMTX won HK, Taiwan and GTE. Now that Westell has a number of contracts, you want to see the terms. TI/Westell has a strategic alliance and you want to see the terms. Did you have an opportunity to see the HK and Taiwan terms. >>>
I had complete faith in Amati until the Westell merger came public and I realized how much money was being burned and how much more it would take before the market took off. This is called reality. Amati did win HK and I was given this information directly from NEC/Japan; Amati did win Taiwan and I got the information from Amati and from Peter Piper; and as for GTE, yes, it remained a promise, based on JS saying publically that Amati was very likely to get a piece of the business. None of these brought in appreciable revenues. In time they will. In Westell's case, the CEO has promised three significant contracts for over six months now and to my knowledge he hasn't delivered yet.
>> I'm just not willing to bank on promises and take the chance of riding the stock lower. <<
<<<You were willing to bank on the AMTX promise. If you don't want to purchase Westell.. that's OK. We both will provide that facts as we see them and let others make their own decisions.>>>
Yes, and there's not a whole lot they or anyone else can do when someone like TI decides to buy the company. You can believe a promise but the company in question still has to have staying power while they become reality.
>> I'm going to be absolutely ruthless and ask, What on earth makes you so sure???? If you knew how closely Cisco was working with GTE, you'd go outside and be sick. Believe me, when I found out, that's exactly how I felt. I get nauseated just remembering being told. If --- and granted, this is still a big if --- all Cisco needs is a linecard to pop in their Dagaz system, whose do you think they'll use? <<
<<<Westell is now providing DMTand CAP to GTE. Westell is providing the CAP portion and AMTX was providing DMT. Who is taking over the AMTX DMT being used at GTE?>>>
As I understand it, Westell will be given the BCTEL contract providing it's approved by them. There is no GTE contract for DMT, so there's nothing to take over.
<<<Why didn't the CLEC division select CSCO? Why didn't the Gov. Srv division select CSCO?>>>
B/C Cisco has no complete solution. And if you want to believe they won't have one, that's your privilege.
<<<I think the GTE ILEC will select Westell.>>>
Jury's out.
<<<Why did you invest in AMTX if "time to market" was so important? When AMTX won the BCTel contract it was great news, now we learn it's seeding of the market. Westell has $60 million and is making money on their ADSL sales. Time to market is less important to Westell than AMTX.>>>
Because I don't have the luxury of hindsight. You do. As for seeding the market, I didn't know of Westell's losses or Amati's until recently. I pray you're right when you say they're making money on their ADSL b/c Seamans is going to have a lot to answer to if they're not.
>> Westell has to go against Alcatel, Siemens, Cisco, NEC, and God knows who else, and without some powerful help getting from here to there, their journey is going to make Burma Road look like a walk in the park. <<
<<<Lucent, Nortel, DSC, Fujitsu, TI/AMTX are just a few that will help Westell on it's road. DSC/Westell for the BA contract, Fujitsu/Westell for the BT contract, TI/AMTX/Westell for a DSP DMT solution. I'm hoping DSC and Lucent will help in a USWest contract win for Westell.... until later.>>>
I hope you're right but I fear in a couple cases you're not. So, let's just agree to disagree.
