Thanks for the “Heads Up”. And, welcome. I recognize you from some other MBs for BSD Medical, and you have much knowledge and insight re the company and its products. For this MB, the news release you posted will be rather opaque, as there are presently very few here who are knowledgeable about the subject. So, here’s a very brief review about Thermodox and how it is used.
Thermodox is an encapsulated form of an “old” cancer drug – Doxorubicin. The encapsulation melts at temperatures somewhat above body temperature. So, by heating only the tumor, the tiny capsules circulating in the blood stream melt only at the tumor, sparing (largely, at least) the rest of the body from the often severe effects of the powerful drug. And, the heated tumor is much more permeable than at body temperature! So, far more drug is delivered to the inside of the tumor. I believe I have seen claims of something like ten times enhancement of drug delivery by this method.
NOTE: many such encapsulated drugs are likely to emerge! Most or all of them will likely use BSD M’s equipment, as they are by far the acknowledged world leader in the precision heating required! For heating the tumor, BSD Medical’s equipment is the premier choice!!
Heating also enhances radiotherapy and surgery. Further, heating to somewhat higher levels is very effective in killing tumors directly. The perfection of methods for precise microwave heating of tumors is a MAJOR advance in cancer therapy. Far more widely applicable than any particular drug or form of radiotherapy! |
