"It's also important to understand how much our needs can be mitigated through conservation and making things more efficient"
Yeah; that can save something like 30% of our non-transportation energy. Electric rail is about 18X as efficient as moving freight by trucks. Lots of stuff, but it all takes spending massive amounts of money, which we don't want to do.
In my own case, when PGE started paying for XS electricity, I replaced my 20 year old fridge with a new one thru Cash for Appliances, and saved about 2-3 KWH/day. I went from being an electric consumer to a producer of 120KWH for the year. Then, last year, my TV went out, and I replaced it with ( a bigger) one that used about 1/5 as much juice, so, this past year, I netted over 500KWH, which will pay the hook-up fee for 4 months. I'll end up paying about $32 total for next year for electricity.
Dems started talking about economic patriotism during the convention. That should include energy, as well as higher taxes on those with money...."energy patriotism"? How much money does Willard have? He owns something like 6 homes. No reason why he can't put in enuf solar panels or windmills to power his car elevator and still produce an XS to give him a profit. He can only live in one place at a time, and the others can be banking lots of electricity. Same goes for B of A, or Merrill Lynch, and all their executives. Some corps are doing it, mostly for the bottom line. Google, the almost evil Walmart redeemed by their greeness, FedEx, and UPS come to mind. So does the NFL. Message 28419037 Message 28420039 |
