The book include an interesting tale about hiding gold in plain sight. When the Nazis were rising to power in Germany, two German scientists sent their gold Nobel Prize metals to Niels Bohr's institute in Denmark for safekeeping. Since Hitler had made gold smuggling a state crime, everyone involved faced death if caught. So when the Germans invaded Denmark in 1940, the medals were dissolved in aqua regia and left sitting in a beaker in the lab. After the war ended, the gold was precipitated out and the medals were recast.
