Our nervous systems must be drawing on some sort of an incredible ability to calculate and estimate and project motion.

Think of how few people walk into each other in a mall or other crowded public place. There is a natural flow and avoidance.

What I have noticed a lot of in the past few years are "rear-enders." This happens when people are looking down at their cell phones while walking and, apparently surprised by something, come to a dead stop and someone walking behind them walks into them. I've almost walked into a few of these people. It's no wonder cell phone usage is part of so many car accidents.
