Gaining insights from those report is very iffy, first it is historic data and well known to the market, what is not known is the reasons behind the short/long selling and many times so called Commercial are actually large Speculators or even worse small speculators due to the various strategies they employs like dynamic hedging.

In a nutshell you never know and the information is not too useful as it was 20 years ago

In summary if you develop a strategy based on sound analysis and you feel comfortable with the reasoning behind it stick to your strategy, otherwise you are tossing a coin and your broker makes the money.
