where those billions upon billions of fuel taxes went to keep this stuff running smooth as glass, huh?

Friday morning I'm flying to NYC - back to the land of $13 charges for a round trip over a city bridge. And they have many bridges - most of the parts of the city are islands. Why does it cost so much? Mayor Bloomberg says that's what it costs to keep them up. BS that is - the money goes to keep his treasury from going bust, because of the growing costs of the overly generous city pensions.

There is a road in NYC called "Brooklyn - Queens Expressway". In more than 30 years, I don't think there was a single day when the roadway wouldn't be closed in some place or another, for endless repairs. I think for the money they spent they could tear it down and rebuild - many time over. So, where do the funds go?

...and that is the greatest open secret of our time.
