LOS ANGELES: United States Representative Michele Bachmann has lashed out at “Arab” food, calling for a ban on what she calls “jihadi” foods, including falafel, which was being offered on vegetarian school lunch menus in Minnesota, satire publication The Daily Current opined in a humorous article about the Republican who has been on an anti-Islam rampage in recent months.
While she was in the studio to discuss her campaign and tight race for reelection against Democratic challenger Jim Graves, the firebrand and anti-Islam Representative from Minnesota, used her air time to call for a countrywide campaign against Arab foods, the piece said of the potential interview.
The Daily Current, in its satire article, put the conversation with “presenter and KSTP anchor” Chris Johnson like this: He appeared surprised, but challenged her statement:
“I have to ask Ms. Bachmann, why is that a problem? I mean some children like the taste of falafel, what’s wrong with that?”
“Chris, falafel is a gateway food,” responded Bachmann, “It starts with falafel, then the kids move on to shawarma. After a while they say ‘hey this tastes good, I wonder what else comes from Arabia?’
“Before you know it our children are listening to Muslim music, reading the Qur’an, and plotting attacks against the homeland.
“We need to stop these terror cakes now, before they infiltrate any further,” Bachmann said, but did not go as far as calling for a ban on all Arab food items.
She said that “responsible adults can probably use Arab food safely in moderation.”
It would have been the latest diatribe for Bachmann, who went on a witch hunt against Arab-Americans in the Obama administration this past summer, sparking worries that the country’s Islamophobia was gaining steam. |
