It's like they're almost determined to lose the hold they had on the last group they have aside from people who vote because of abortion and/or glbt issues, or the super rich who want no taxes on themselves.
That's what has surprised me too........that the Rs have become so overt with what used to be their private thinking. There was a time when they were smart enough not to share their private thinking but the 2008 election of Obama has emboldened them. Reagan knew enough to talk about states' rights as a covert cue and not talk about overturning the Civil Rights Act of 1964 publicly. Apparently, the current crop of Rs haven't gotten the memo.
But what really has me incensed is the way these coal miners got treated. They were forced to go to the rally and then their boss screwed them out of their day's pay. Coal mining is a crummy, dangerous job. Most coal miners get black lung by the time they are in their 40s. To piss on them like this ass Murray did is beyond insulting. And I say that knowing most of these miners probably will vote for Romney.
A bizarre, to me, exchange I read the other day was a decent thing a man posted on FB in terms of Christianity and what we should look for in a leader... the man, a big time scholar, was mostly talking about leaders who don't have a double standard in terms of values, like we torture but they can't, that sort of thing. Some dude, also educated, said he already was inclined to vote against Obama because of abortion but now drones made him really not want to vote for him.
OK, drones? Obama had power over that, but the President has nothing to do with abortion. Nothing. OK, if a person is looking at SC appointments and overturning Roe vs Wade, I suppose.
Just really stunned me. I suppose I should be used to it.
The irony is that many of the people that vote against Obama and for Romney get very short shrift from the GOP. It always surprises me the number of blacks, women, lesbians, gays, Latinos etc that vote for an R.
I know there's a lot of talk about working class whites, and especially those in the south. blahblahblahblahblah (had to go 5 to make it odd number). Truth is, imo, neither party has offered much for a long time, and Dems insulted them more. Now Repubs are being a tad too clear in their insults, though. That could be a game changer.
Yeah, but you have to remember that the GOP has controlled many of the red states for 50 years esp the ones in the South, and the poor in those red states don't have a lot to show for it. Neither party may be saints but I rather be ruled by a Dem than an R. |
