So, the internet share of GLOBAL retail book sales will be 10% by 2000? Yeah, right!

OK, I'll do the research.

bea.doc.gov

According to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, gross output in current dollars for SIC#5942 (Retail Trade-Book Stores) was $5,596mm for 1996. The avg annual growth rate since 1990 was 7.75%. Projecting that growth rate (assuming no slowdown) to 2000 yields sales that year of $7.54 billion.

Are you telling me, John, that Amazon will sell enough books in 2000 to account for 13.3% of the US retail book store industry? That they will do this volume via the internet, with no brick and mortar?

We'll see.

Bob
