OK, where can this post be credibly attributed ?

Sad but true.

Folks, dear readers of the WSJ, look at HP: THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NON-ENGINEERS RUN AN ENGINEERING COMPANY!HP was Bill Hewlett (BAEE Stanford, MSEE MIT) and Dave Packard (BAEE, MSEE Stanford), two engineers who created an icon of engineering. They made the best electronic instruments in the world. That was something.

Then came Carley Fiorina (UCLA law - drop out, MBA U. of Maryland, MS management MIT Sloan) who was a failure at Lucent, then HP, then politics.

Then came Meg Whitman (BA Economics Princeton, MBA Harvard) who reversed the sequence by being a failure at politics before being a failure at HP.

The best that can happen now, as Jay says, is if Agilent gets the HP logo back. Then the story goes full circle with HP still making the best instruments in the world while Carley and Meg go on to their next disaster as the greatest female CEO's of our time!
