normally, arbitrageurs hedge the merger deal by selling the acquirer and buying the acquiree below the deal #. The problem is that there isn't much of a premium for the them to play the hedge, so both got flushed in the process.

Unless there is another co getting in on the act, the lack of premium will take both of them down until one pulls the other up.
