10/5/12 Contest Update
The Nasdaq Composite Index didn’t do much for the week but biotech investors had lots to cheer about. And cheering the loudest were those lucky enough to own Sarepta. Reacting to positive clinical trial news for its Duchenne muscular dystrophy drug, SRPT’s stock quickly tripled Wednesday morning and likely gave a lift to the entire sector.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 50.00% YTD (vs. up 46.73% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 41.33% YTD (vs. up 37.01% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 20.38% YTD (vs. up 19.62% YTD a week ago).
SRPT fell back a bit by Friday’s close. But it still managed to blast RKRW’s portfolio to a 152.03% YTD gain, widening its lead over the second place portfolio by more than 50%. Holding on to second place, is GENE’s portfolio, up 93.96% YTD, and DONS’ portfolio, up 97.36% YTD, remains in third place.
At Friday's close, just 1 of the 38 Contest portfolios was in the red, with 22 of the 38 portfolios beating the NBI.
