You're misrepresenting what Ayn Rand said. She has never called compassion "a great evil." Instead, she calls out "altruists" who say it is man's duty to sacrifice himself and his own desires for the so-called "greater good."

It's these sort of misrepresentations that give the Randian altruists the tools to convert the masses toward their utopian goals.

The ironic thing is that Rand also rails against faith and mysticism, two traits that are often associated with the "religious right." But the left has created its own proxy religion. It's called environmentalism. It's called secular humanism. It's called socialist collectivism. Put your faith in them, and they'll take care of you.

After all, when you can tell the producers of society that they have too much, that "fair share" means "from those according to their ability, to those according to their need," you are fulfilling exactly what Ayn Rand has called out.
