Search for Java on Intel or any other big-name company and you will find plenty of straight forward discussions on Java. Also, bookstore shelves are now packed with Java books and there's at least a couple of good CORBA books -- I recommend Client/Server programming with Java and Corba, John Wiley and Sons, Inc. AFA the best development suite and the best platform: Sun's Solaris or IBM's Warp, each with their respective tools. That's not to exclude Wintel boxes and tools but if you that's all you have you won't really have a means of compatibility testing. BTW, Apple's Rhapsody might actually turn out to be the best but that remains to be seen.
