BARRY,

Funny you should mention this. Over Thanksgiving I had a similar experience driving to visit inlaws. I always hate trying to find a radio station away from home.

But lets first look at the local market. I would say it can be divided into people happy with their local stations and those who listen to their own CD's. Given my earlier premise that people just don't care about radio enough to pay for it, I think they would have a tough time trying to convert people content with broadcast to a subscriber system. As for the CD listening crowd, I think they would be content to keep buying their CD's.

Now moving on to the out-of-town market, their are OTR truckers and rental cars. There might be enough truckers out their to support such a concept, but I haven't yet worked up any numbers. The rental market sounds good, but I am doubtful anyone renting a car really spends enough time in it to care about what's own the radio. Again I could be wrong, but for someone to want to pay extra for CDRD in a rental they have to have been exposed to it previously in order to want it; which I think brings one back to the local market which I have already dealt with.

FWIW, any commments?
