Hi Skeeter Bug; Re Monsanto fighting labeling that may actually help them in the end;

People always fight against laws that restrict their actions even when those laws work in their favor. But there's only one way to see how it all works out. It boils down to this question, which is one that I don't think has been polled:

Will the average person buy foods that they know have GMOs?

I think that the answer to this is a resounding "yes" and that this fact is not sufficiently appreciated. The people who are afraid of eating GMOs are already eating "organic" food. So I don't see the labeling as having much of an effect on product choices (once normal food all gets GMO labels).

Right now the manufacturers are very afraid of putting GMO labels on general food. It reminds me of how the cigarette companies were afraid of putting warnings on cigarettes. The warnings had little effect; the population smokes less now because taxes run the price of the things way high and our culture no longer allows people to smoke indoors at work or restaurants (most of the country I'm guessing).

You won't find that the public has become inured to GMO warnings until some time after the law passes in California. First it doesn't take effect until July 1, 2014. Second, it will likely be delayed by lawsuits, maybe a year or more. Finally, it will be some time before manufacturers clue in to the market response to GMO labeled foods. Then it will be some time before they react to that news. It could be 2017 or 2018 before the GMO labels are ubiquitous except at high dollar organic food stores.
