Just came over from yahoo message board; just very frustrating to post anything there now days.

I have been trying to make sense of the short interest but have no conclusion. thoughts anyone?

Here are my findings so far but I can't come to any conclusion and my data is still incomplete. I have been trying to make sense of all these daily short volume but retailers do not have a complete picture of the information. Go to www sec gov answers shortsalevolumehtm and you will find all the exchanges. I went to each one trying to get total volume to reconcile with Nasdaq . com total volume.

I then added all the short volume for the exchanges for the period 9-4-2012 to 9-14-2012 when short interest went up almost 2 million shares. The total short volume I have so far for that 2 weeks are 4.972 million shares and the data is not complete as you can see below that my total volume for those exchanges does not reconcile to the nasdaq . com total volume by day. What is also not clear is the 4.972 million shorted shares traded does not show us what the net shorted shares are. We know in total for that two week, its 1,936,624 increase in net shorted shares. I am wondering if the short sellers are just buying and selling the same shares to prevent any failed delivery of the shares. Yet, there were true buyers in those two weeks because the share price did not drop much from $12.18 close on 9-4-2012 to $12.01 close on 9-14-2012 with an increase of almost 2 million shorted shares.

What also sucks for us retailers is that we can't afford those access fees being implemented by some of the exchanges like NYSE and nasdaq for detail information on the shorted shares by day.
