Yes, we liberals are all cut out of the same piece of cloth, but have our own individual experiences. And if we see where we have made a mistake we gladly change our minds. None of us wants to be wrong, when we can just change our minds and be right.
We liberals discuss ideas. The right wing does not do that. They reinforce ideology, no matter how crazy.
I had an interesting experience today. A young Kenyan fellow moved up here and is staying with my ex while he gets his feet on the ground and brings his family up. He works and is getting a masters degree. So I took him out to lunch today and we had so much fun as he is funny as hell. We spent a lot of time discussing politics i.e. blue blue versus red red-g.
But to the point, Obama's father came from his clan. He said the entire clan is sort of the intelligencia of Kenya and being persecuted. His dad was a doctor, his sister has a PHD in environmental science. He was so easy to talk to and we laughed all day.
I chided him all day for his prejudices (against gay marriage). He was sharp, and could take it, but still getting his bearings regarding our culture and right versus left. I told him I was a far left liberal, an atheist and didn't claim any culture, but just considered myself a member of the human species living on spacehip earth and all peoples are my brothers and sisters.
Our last laugh was when he told me a person (I thought he said his sister) told me Alaska was such a successful state because it is controlled by conservatives. I then explained how both our constitution and social structure was all formed by liberals.
Then when we reviewed who told him that, he said, not my sister, a taxi driver. We had a good laugh over that one. |
