I don't think most people, even lefties, realize how much of "smart" is simple education and freedom from dogmatic indoctrination. The latter being as mind numbing, as a lack of knowledge and logic. Most don't realize how the brain develops into an "expert mind". How it builds software systems, and files, and forms systems of logic, like a telescope expands the minds' peripheral vision and ability to probe deeply and logically into abstract thinking. Like counting. Many religions do not even allow one to question their god! People are not allowed to question things, exchange and probe ideas, so how do they learn? They don't. They use their myths as fallback positions and just blame whatever comes to mind for their woes.
