America Online to Integrate Microsoft Outlook Express E-Mail Technology Agreement Will Allow AOL Members to Use Rich, Customizable HTML DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1997-- AOL Networks, the Internet online service division of America Online Inc. (NYSE: AOL - news) Monday announced that AOL will integrate Microsoft's Outlook Expresso e-mail technologies, including Dynamic HTML, into AOL's existing e-mail client.
This email functionality will become available to many AOL users in the first half of 1998.
This agreement will enable AOL members using Windows to use Outlook Express to read and compose email on the AOL service, and give AOL members access to Microsoft's advanced e-mail functionality.
Microsoft Outlook Express' technologies will allow AOL members to communicate using MIME HTML, the Internet standard which allows a user to send and receive HTML content, including graphics and other media.
With over 20 million e-mail messages sent through AOL daily, AOL e-mail is the most popular e-mail product in cyberspace as well as the easiest to use. AOL plans to offer Microsoft Outlook Express capability to its members as part of its efforts to continually upgrade members' e-mail experience.
Microsoft Outlook Express is a full Internet-standards based e-mail client that lets users send and receive live Web pages, including active hyperlinks, directly from the browser.
Besides the rich HTML capabilities, the Outlook Express technology offers powerful mail management features that sort, organize and filter incoming mail and an expanded Internet Address Book which allows users to find others on the Internet.
