LOL. Maybe. Let's see. Here's my voting record: * Reagan'80 * Reagan'84 * Bush Sr'88 * Bush Sr'92 * Dole'96 * Bush Jr'00 * Kerry'04 * Obama'08 * Romney'12 - plans at this point
The truth is that I voted against Clinton the first time, because I really liked Bush Sr. I voted against Clinton the second time, not because I didn't like Clinton, but mostly out of the habit of voting for the GOP. In retrospect, I really like Clinton. He was a good, balanced President, although he did have penchant for getting in trouble with the ladies. :)
The thing that ties me to the GOP more than anything else is my strong fiscal conservative streak. Much of the rest of the GOP platform is not as appealing to me. I'm a social liberal, an environmentalist, not much into the US being a global policeman, and a progressive taxation believer. So by most stripes, I should be a Dem. But all of those leanings are overcome by my strong belief in fiscal conservatism. The GOP has failed on that score multiple times, most notably with Bush Jr. However, they still are the best chance I have for getting someone with similar beliefs in office. Obama proved to me conclusively that he is not a fiscal conservative. He should have listened more to Bill Clinton. Clinton was a fiscal conservative, in my opinion. |
