The way the scam works is they send a fake cashiers check for more than the sale price. They then ask you to send the overage. By the time your bank tells you the check was a fake, they have the money and the victim is stuck paying the bank back. There are scams where attorneys are contacted "to represent me in collection matter in your jurisdiction." Believe it or not, there have been lawyers who fell for the scam.
