I bought a car through Craigslist, but it wasn't without it's problems. I probably went through 15 scammers before I found 2 who were legit. But I also had the help of my son and my mechanic who were able to qualify the good. Most of the scammers in CA buy cars that have been in an accident and they do the minimum to make it look presentable. There's a requirement that the pink slip has to state that the car has been in an accident. Also, the seller has to provide a smog certificate. If there's something mechanically wrong with the car, it's probably not going to pass the smog test. It's an underground industry here to recycle lemons. I quickly learned that if the person on the other end of the phone had an Asian accent, it was probably a bad deal.
