tonto, The unemployment rate is a high number...too many millions of people are unemployed.

And, what do you believe was the cause(s) of the unemployment rate which was shown to have increased from 2007 and peaked out the middle of 2009 around 10%? Then from that high rate it has decreased to the current rate of around 7.8%.

Were the causes: (1) pure capitalism, maximizing the profits for the stockholders by seeking out the lowest labor cost; (2) automation, (robots, computer technology) increasing corporate productivity; (3) lack of adequate skill sets by individuals to perform the high skill sets required; and (4) the passage of the agriculture and low technology ages to that of high technology, networking and nanotechnology?

What would you do to resolves these causes for unemployment? I am sure there are other causes!

Today, I spoke with a heavy machine equipment operator. He informed me that he became unemployed because his skills became obsolete since he did not have the computer skills to operate the new bulldozer and other heavy equipment which networked their computerized equipment with satellite GPS feeds. The gentleman was in his mid forties and stated that he probably would not find a comparable job for the same pay and fringes for his semi-skill abilities within an information, and nano-technology age.

And, we now have many additional relatively low skilled soldiers returning form battle. Where are they going to find work? Perhaps, as one of the authors which I read suggested, we need another stimulus package (another war) like during the times of the great depression of the late 20-30's plus renewing the CCC, WPA, or community work projects. We will need additional formal and informal education at the universities and technical school in collaboration with business and innovators of the future.

The question: where do we find the money and other resources for such innovative programs and partnerships with business?
