The British no doubt took away a lot from India. None the same, they left some very good things behind such as good public transport system, a good education system, a India that is more integrated than when they got India under the crown.

I have started visiting India as a consultant. The money that they can afford to pay is not much. But I recognize that if I am seeking the pleasure of my childhood years to interact with Indians, to revisit their intellectual brilliance that I witnessed growing up there, enjoy the foods etc. I have to pay a price for that. Hence I look forward to going there on business in my retirement years.

But mostly, it is m y desire to give back what I got from there as a graduate of the Indian Institutes of Technology. Many say that corruption there will make it difficult for them to reach the top. But Ii think while that is true, it is also going to be tempered by their intellectual vibrancy.

Thanks again for clearing up my question on why you were so particularly interested about India and brought those good posts to this thread..
