Re: Granted it may not be good judging from the earnings of the other high techs such as MSFT, IBM etc.

IBM met earnings expectations, but was light on revenues. They kept their annual eps guidance.

Apple's cycles flow around product cycles, particularly the introduction of a new iPhone. Buyers hold off the prior quarter to wait for the new model. The iPhone 5 was released for only about 8 days of the September quarter. The big effect will be in Q1.

But Apple beat its own guidance for Q3. What they "missed" was some analysts' expectations.

Apple expectations and results were also impacted by a shakedown over the trademark 'iPad" and Apple flat out refused to sell the New iPad in China until that was resolved. Eventually, they paid a $65 million ransom. If that was the end of Q3, it impacted Q3 but was a purposeful withholding of a key product from a large market. iPad sales in China were probably very strong in Q4.
