Mr James Dorman reports The Aljubarrota No. 1 exploratory well, in Portugal's Lusitanian basin, was spudded on November 28 1997. This well, the first on Portugal's territory since 1993, will require between 60 and 65 days to reach a total depth of 12,000 feet. The primary objective is the Lower Triassic Silves Formation sandstone which, according to the operator, if productive from this 35,000 acre structural closure, could contain more than 5 trillion cubic feet of gas and over 100 million barrels of oil. Partners in the program are Mohave Oil and Gas (operator), Houston; Doreal Energy Corporation, Vancouver; El Paso Energy Portugal, Houston; Capex S.A., Buenos Aires; European Hydrocarbons Ltd, London; and EDC/Samedan, Houston. This consortium holds over 850,000 acres in both the onshore and offshore Lusitanian basin.
Now lets hope there is a bunch of gas under that salt!!
