We're only making the bomb for peaceful purposes, such as wiping Israel off the map. And how would they do that?
Israel has somewhere between 75 and 400 very sophisticated nuclear warheads. Or, at least they should be. Their spies stole information from the very best, us. And they have the capability to deliver them by several means. So, assuming that Iran were to develop a weapon. To make them small enough to deliver with anything short of a cargo ship, and I would think a cargo ship going from Iran to a port in Israel would be just a little suspicious, they need to test.
Y'all like to pretend that making a nuclear bomb is a simple process. It isn't. It requires a lot of specialized knowledge that isn't readily available. Look at North Korea, they tried to make the very simplest type, so simple it isn't suitable for delivery by missile. And they don't have a bomber big enough to handle one. Anyway, they still have not managed to have a successful test, the last one is likely the only one with a significant amount of fission.
So, they have to test. It isn't like a test can be done is secret. The Israelis were the last ones to be able to pull off a secret test, or at least we weren't certain that they had. Technology has improved a lot in the intervening decades, though. There is really no way they can test and everyone in the world not know about it.
But one test isn't enough. Unless you have a trove of high quality information you have managed to steal or buy, you have to do several to get all the information you need to build a deliverable weapon. And you would need the time to incorporate that information.
So even after Iran were to have its first successful test, it still will take a lot of time before they can field anything useful. These are just the facts of the matter.
