We know that in this system, it does not matter who gets the majority of the popular vote. Mathematically, I don't see how a Republican who fails to get the EC gets a majority share of the popular vote. The safe Blue states have very large populations favoring Democrats in the popularity vote.

Another way to look at it is to ask how can Republican get majority of popular vote (as is likely based on the current polls) and still lose EC (based on the current polls).
