Home Theater magazine is duped...
The December issue of the rather slick (but brain dead) Home Theater magazine lashes out on Divx. According to the magazine's editors, they were duped by the entire CE and Hollywood industries. While everyone in the CE and film industries knew about Divx, many months prior to its September announcement, Home Theater editors were in the dark and were peddling DVD as the latest "must have" home-theater product to their readers.
Better they turn their rath on the Japanese CE companies and Hollywood studios, the dupers to the dupees.
Interestingly, one of the Divx articles pointed out that Zenith was instrumental in the early development of Divx. Hope, therefore, that Zenith is able to extract more from Divx than the early exclusive distribution of Divx players. Down the road a few years, Circuit City projects to earn about $600 million a year from Divx. In the longer run, Divx could challenge the entire Internet model of consumer commerce...
Circuit City owns 75% of Divx and a major Hollywood law firm, Ziffren et al, the remaining 25%. Would have preferred that Thomson and Zenith owned 25% each and Circuit City 25%. Unfortunately, beggars can't be choosers.
Home Theater hopes that Divx will die. The egg on their faces is smeared thickly and is still wet. Dollars to Dunkin Donuts that about six months from now the Home Theater gang will be singing the DVD blues while slithering up to the Divx-industry advertisers.... |
