Re: x-ray lithography, it is my guess that tests will involve the use of x-ray collimeters, the design of which is funded by another DARPA research project. This is an enabling technology. I am concerned the process may not be competitive with improved synchrotrons or the SCALPEL e-beam.
In Science News Nov.8 '97 Lloyd P. Harriott of Bell Labs says' <We are confident that SCALPEL will make (electron beam) lithography viable for high production.> the article further said <a production-worthy SCALPEL system could be available by the year 2002.>
This means that the JMAR system will play a smaller role, perhaps more as a resaerch tool. Anyway the test has to be good enough to get additional funding but I think the DARPA maybe reducing its funding for x-ray lithography related research.
