<< modems are nearly irrelevant - when it comes to long term profitability. all pc's need
modems and 3com will get their share. >>

All PC's need disk drives and DRAM. Get my drift?

<< the money is in the switches, etc - the enterprise layer. there is more profitability in 1 switch
than 30 modems. >>

Yes, and they are much more complicated. There is talk (I posted a reference) of COMS rushing out their switching/routing products too fast and there being glitches.

<< 3com is doing very well in the enterprise - their sales grew over 30% in this arena. >>

Last Q COMS sales of LAN switches and hubs grew 6% sequentially.
Cisco? 27%

<< do you know of any problems in the enterprise arena? >>

It depends on what you classify as a problem. It is a growth area like most of the networking sector but prices are coming down very fast in the low end. COMS has a ways to go before making the transition to higher margin products. In the higher end COMS will bump heads directly with C$CO... and they will lose...
