CJ, can you tell me why the Obama administration, after claiming they'll talk with Iran without any pre-conditions, has pursued a policy that states a nuclear-armed Iran is unacceptable?
:Politics. This issue has gotten so hyped by Israel supporters that he doesn't have any wiggle room. The Israelis use it for their own internal political reasons and people here have made a fetish out of following Israel's lead. I find it interesting that it is more unacceptable to criticize Israel in the US than it is in Israel itself. A very odd situation.

Maybe you can tell Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the concept of mutually assured destruction works, and that it's OK to let Iran have the bomb.

I didn't say it was ok. There are some important geopolitical implications. But Israel getting nuked isn't one of them. Getting distracted with nonsense means it is more difficult to address the real issues.

As a result, threatening war is not going to solve the problem. Things like the sanctions and the cyberwar are. The sanctions are having a real effect. Tehran is blaming the US, and for once they are correct. But the old 'the US wants this so we need to tough it out' no longer seems to be working.
