Mourdock Hopes Romney Can Put Him Over Top in Indiana

Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock has launched an ad showing Mitt Romney’s backing, hoping that Romney’s popularity in the Hoosier state will transfer over to the former state treasurer.

Romney leads Obama by a whopping 54 percent to 41 percent in Indiana, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll taken Oct. 10-11.

But in another Rasmussen survey taken at the same time, Mourdock led by only 5 percentage points over his Democratic challenger Joe Donnelly. And Donnelly led by 2 points in a Howey/DePauw poll taken Sept. 19-23.

Mourdock’s nasty primary contest with Sen. Dick Lugar made it difficult for Republicans to unite behind him.

As for the ad, "This fall I'm supporting Richard Mourdock for Senate," Romney says in it. "As state treasurer, Richard worked with Gov. Daniels to balance the budget and make government more accountable. As senator, Richard will be the 51st vote to repeal and replace government-run healthcare. Richard will help stop the liberal Reid-Pelosi agenda. There's so much at stake. I hope you'll join me in supporting Richard Mourdock for U.S. Senate."
