The only thing wrong with Progressivism is Progressivism. It is simply liberalism under a new name because the old name got a deservedly bad rap. The idea that the state owes anyone more than a level playing flied is wrong.

The reason that socialism has failed is the wrong people have been in power. Unfortunately, this will always be the case. Egalitarianism flows from having compassion. Compassionate people succeed in capitalistic business because they feel for their customers. They always want to do better for their customers. Customers who are well served want their suppliers and service providers to succeed so they can continue to get better service.

Ruthless people succeed in central government. Those who have not amassed enough power get purged.

Progressivism is the route of failure.

In a union workplace you learned to go along to get along. If you had kept on working hard you would have ended up as a union steward and if you did well there you probably would have been hired into management.

Today, at Walmart, workers can get schedules that have them working 4 hours here and 4 hours there and whatever hours Walmart needs them to work to avoid "full time employment" and the benefits that might accrue.

And you had better believe the more socialist (progressive) that government becomes the more prevalent that type of treatment of workers will become in businesses. There is a huge difference between benefits added as an incentive to hire the best workers and free stuff mandated by central planners. When businesses compete for the best workers in a strong economy, they add benefits because people are not always motivated by just money. When the economy falls into malaise central planners lament the falling standard of livings caused by their own actions and imagine they can mandate better living standards.

Smart businesspeople find work arounds. If they lower the standard for benefits then people will end up with even fewer hours at each job and more jobs.
