If the MaxiPad cost 60% more than the Surface and the Surface has been out for 6 months (and was a second generation product), nobody but die-hard fanboys would buy it, either.

That would be a $499 to $798 comparison, in case you're slow on math.

The MiniPad is a DOA product that will do nothing but destroy and divide iPad sales.

Its filling a niche that simply does not exist.
