Numbers are funny things. I was at Costco, San Diego tonight. People who make $50+ per hour waiting in line half an hour to save $2 - $5 on gasoline... actually probably less if one shops around.

60% over $.50 is $.80... 60% over $.05 is $.08. $.03 an "ASTONISHING DIFFERENCE"!!!

$130 amortized over 2 years is $.178 per day. If you make $50/hr and you have to frig with a device more than 2 hours and 20 minutes per year, you lost money. Like one major screw up, a virus? If you have to frig with it more than 20 seconds per day, over 2 years you are losing money. Like not being able to figure out how to print something?

I always read consumer reports frequency of repair stats before I ever buy any car:

Price doesn't guarantee quality but sometimes better things are higher priced for reasonable reasons.

Of course YOU are right about some people being a little slow on math. You could pay $73K or $13K for a 2010 POS or you could pay 22K for a nice, solid reliable car that will probably rarely be in the hands of a weasel mechanic, particularly because the people who buy the top and bottom probably don't know a good underground mechanic and take their car into the dealer, the worst mechanics. The Tappet Brothers know better. A nice Toyota might last 10 - 20 years without a major repair bill and no time lost taking it to the mechanic.

22K is an astonishing 70% over 13K... I always wonder when I see people with those PT Cruisers. My neighbor has one. I feel sorry for her. She didn't know. About all they can do with it is move it across the street every couple of weeks to avoid the street sweeping tickets. My ex was going to buy one until I showed her this. She thought it was a "cute" car. Couldn't believe it, and the BMWs either.

Yeah Apple is going to sell millions of mini iPads, because Apple stuff is still pretty reliable and if there is a problem you can take it into a genius bar and get it fixed or replaces PDQ. Some people will pay more and get less. Some people will be tripping over dollars to pick up nickels.
