Q3 2012: IDC and Strategy Analytics Estimated Smartphone Sell-In and Share

IDC: Smartphone manufacturers shipped 179.7 million devices in the third quarter up 45.3 percent from 123.7 million units in the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, the overall mobile phone market grew 2.4 percent year-over-year with shipments of 444.5 million.

Strategy Analytics: “Global smartphone shipments grew 35 percent annually from 120.0 million units in Q2 2011 to 161.7 million in Q3 2012. The 35 percent growth rate was relatively soft, as a volatile global economy and maturing penetration of smartphones among contract mobile subscribers continued to moderate demand.”
