They didn't "want" anything per se, just control so they might eliminate those who are conservative. When they run out of conservatives, they will likely eliminate those of who are less liberal...and so on.... And that describes the suicidal downward spiral that was the French Revolution. In the end, like the French, the liberals will eat their own and then it will dawn on them, "that was all rather pointless." That's how stupid they are.
