My wife got cancer a few years ago. She had coverage with her company, but her company turned out to be run by swindlers and two months before my wife was diagnosed they had stopped paying the insurance premiums. End result, my wife went into a pretty extensive surgery and radiology treatment with no insurance. It was pretty much devastating financially.

You would think that I am a big fan of obamacare. I am not. Our need does not translate into an obligation for others to pay. Sure, I would love it if we didn't have to go deeply into debt to pay for all of the medical treatment, but here's what the trade off is...my wife is alive. It really is a simple equation for me. How much is my wife's life worth? And the answer is whatever I have and however much debt I can take on to pay for it.

And slowly but surely we are paying it off.

BTW: After being diagnosed with cancer, my wife was able to get insurance through her new employer. So that isn't impossible.
