Jori,
There are plenty of jobs out there for people who are willing to move or go outside of their comfort zone.
According to a previous issue of Time Magazine, there is a surplus of skilled jobs (engineers, science, technicians, etc.) for potential employees with good abilities. However, those who only have low or poor skilled abilities (there are many) there is a shortfall of jobs. My nephew, a manufacturer plant manager stated, "two thirds of our employees are high skilled employees with approximately 130 IQ, When asked where he found these employees he stated that his firm raided other corporations rather than hire unemployed individuals. He stated his corporation felt that the unemployed discarded by other companies were the "slipshod" individuals that the previous company wanted to get rid of. Also, he stated that they only hired those individuals 45 years of age or younger.
I am 49 years old and far from retired. In July I resigned from a position that I held for seven years, I didn't have a job lined up. I was employed within five weeks.
Jori, you were fortunate since you were at that vulnerable age 49 - 62 where individuals either do not have the employable high skill sets for employment, or are considered a potential health risk do to their age. Monday I met an heavy equipment operator, your age, who lost his job to information technology. He did not have the ability to operate the equipment with GPS technological. You must have had the proper skill set match!!!
This same situation happened at my nephews business. Many individuals were let go do to the automation of the assembly lines where the number of employees were reduced from 14 individuals to 3 or 4 individuals. Robots and computers replaced the position for the need for unskilled workers. |
