Joining the EU did not give Merkel the power to control or destroy Greece or Spain.

Greece's fiscal actions and Spain's fiscal actions over many years have lead to the current situation.

Tell me what are the fiscal actions that Spain did to get into trouble?

Austerity did not cause these problems to exist.

Unrelenting deficit spending by the government is the root cause. The bond holders just want their money back.

Austerity may not have caused the problems but its not the solution either.
