???

My new Surface is both a touch-first tablet and a 100% functional laptop; ultra-thin tactile keyboard, click trackpad and all. It is also video teleconferencing device with all my many Skype contacts, domestic and international, right on it; with standing orientation and camera angles designed perfectly for this video converencing function.

I received a Microsoft Word document this morning; the notes for Monday morning management meeting, and I can peruse those notes on the touch screen, or edit them with the keyboard and mouse while in the meeting.

You somehow seem to be trying to turn a serious limitation and liability of the the iPad into an asset.

It is a toy by comparison. Great for games and entertainment.

My productivity tool is both fun and highly functional. I can share real office documents with real co-workers. I can connect to standards based printers (100% of the top 100 printers are supported). I can insert a standard MicroSD card for removable storage.

Everyone who has come in and seen it has been completely blown away; and there has been a steady stream.

I'll except the fanboy division of my company. They just looked depressed after they looked at it. :)

Not to take away from the funness of it. It has every-bit the touch experience a tablet should be. It is indeed a dual interface system; and this is a good thing, not a bad one. It has great multi-user support, and strong parental controls.

How long do you think before Apple realizes they were wrong, rips off Microsoft and adds pointer and keyboard to the standard iPad? Mark my words, its coming. They'll either bolt the touch-screen to the desktops and move them to Arm, or beef-up the iPad to support pointing devices... but one way or another, its coming.

Meanwhile, Apple lets users of their desktop OS wither on the vine, while they devote all resources to their cash cow, the fun mobile devices that make great toys, entertainment devices and e-readers. For they know that when they give the desktop OS the software and hardware upgrades it so badly needs, the raison d'etre of the tablet devices will cease to exist.
