Actually, having the pointing device (trackpad/mouse/stylus etc) is absolutely indispensible in creating a productivity device.

Microsoft actually pulls off beautifully with the multiple input methods in Windows 8 / RT; it is really amazing. The uber-inexpensive Windows 8 upgrade and CDs are selling like hotcakes as we speak... . Identical interface to RT.... $40 special from Micro-Center.

The Surface is everything the iPad is, and then some. The Surface hardware is groundbreaking. The RT OS leapfrogs iOS.

And you know that 95% of the global PC OS market that runs Windows, virtually all of which is upgradable to Windows 8? Software targeting the new WinRT runtime, runs under both Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Welcome to the "post PC" era... LOL. My post-PC is a wonderful PC too. I've given up nothing, and gained every advantage of a tablet.

My oldest daughter is begging me to use it all the time now, by the way. You should try one out at the mall or something.

I still like to take my little ones up to the Apple store. Those little round circle chairs and tables are great, and they have a lot of fun playing those demo games on the iPad. The iPad indeed does have a lower learning curve. But its just amazing how fast kids their age pick up anything. They navigate the Kindle Fire quite well on their own. They little one's have not tried the Surface yet.
